Iran Proposes Joint Regional Probe into Strikes, Says Targets Were US-Linked

Tehran: Iran's foreign minister announced on Sunday that Tehran is prepared to collaborate with regional countries to form a joint investigation committee. The aim of this committee would be to ascertain the nature of the targets that have come under attack and determine if they were linked to the United States, amidst ongoing hostilities between Tehran and Washington.

According to TRTworld.com, in an interview with the London-based newspaper The New Arab (Al-Araby Al-Jadeed), Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi stated that the strikes carried out by Iran were aimed at US bases and interests in the region. This was in response to attacks that Iran claims were launched against it from these bases. Araghchi also mentioned that Tehran had obtained intelligence suggesting that the US and Israel were launching attacks from specific locations towards Arab countries.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran has not targeted any civilian or residential areas in the region, despite reports of strikes on airports, hotels, and other civilian targets in Gulf countries. He further warned of retaliatory attacks on American companies in the region if Iranian oil facilities were to be hit. "If our energy facilities are targeted, we will also target the facilities of American companies in the region," he stated.

The foreign minister also alleged that the US had developed a drone similar to Iran's Shahed drone, named Lucas, which is reportedly used to strike targets in Arab countries. However, he noted that this information is still under review. Araghchi indicated that communications with neighboring countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, remain active. He pointed out that diplomatic contacts have not ceased, and several regional countries are engaged in mediation efforts to reduce tensions and propose solutions to end the conflict.

Araghchi expressed Iran's readiness to consider any proposals that would ensure a complete end to the war. Since the joint attacks by Israel and the US on Iran on February 28, which resulted in around 1,200 deaths including the then Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, hostilities have intensified. Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries that host US military assets.
