Geneva: At the UN working group meeting on preventing an arms race in outer space, the Islamic Republic of Iran condemned the illegal attacks by the Zionist regime and the United States on the Iranian peaceful space facilities and called for urgent action by the international community to counter the weaponization of space.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, at the ongoing UN working group meeting in Geneva, Iran highlighted the need for a legally binding instrument to prevent the deployment of weapons and an arms race in space. The Iranian delegation emphasized that these attacks targeted civilian, scientific, and space research facilities. These facilities support crisis management, satellite communications, scientific research, and other public services, and the attacks are viewed as violations of the UN Charter, international humanitarian law, and the Outer Space Treaty.

Iran's delegation stressed that the international community's silence on these actions jeopardizes the security of peaceful use of outer space for all nations. The country called for urgent measures to ensure that outer space remains a domain for peaceful exploration and use, free from military conflict and weaponization.
