New york: Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has strongly dismissed recent U.S. allegations against Tehran, saying Washington is exploiting the U.N. Security Council to divert attention from its own destabilizing conduct in the region.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ambassador Amir Saee’d Iravani sent a letter to the U.N. and the Security Council, where he ‘categorically rejected’ the ‘baseless allegations’ made by the U.S. during Council meetings on July 9 and July 15. He specifically addressed claims that Iran is violating Security Council Resolution 2216 on Yemen, asserting that these accusations are ‘entirely unfounded, unsubstantiated, and devoid of credible evidence.’
Ambassador Iravani emphasized Iran’s commitment to its international obligations and relevant Security Council resolutions, stating that Iran continues to support a peaceful, inclusive, and Yemeni-led political process. He criticized the United States for allegedly abusing the Security Council platform to deflect attenti
on from its own actions, including military involvement in Yemen and support for Israel’s actions in the region.
The ambassador highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen, attributing it to a coalition backed by the United States and accusing it of violations of international humanitarian law. He urged the Security Council not to let U.S. narratives obscure the situation in Gaza and the broader region.
The letter concluded that lasting peace in the Middle East requires addressing root causes of instability, pointing to Israel’s occupation and violations of international law as significant factors.
