Moscow: The heads of railway companies from Iran, Russia, and Azerbaijan have signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding focused on enhancing rail freight transport among the three nations. The MoU was signed by Jabbar Ali Zakeri, Deputy Minister for Roads and Urban Development and head of Iran's Railway Authority; Oleg Belozyorov, CEO of Russian Railways; and Rovshan Rustamov, head of Azerbaijan Railways.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the memorandum aims to improve transit connectivity between the countries. The officials also discussed the development of the western route of the North-South Corridor, which is expected to facilitate better integration of their rail networks.

The CEO of Russian Railways revealed an agreement to establish a "digital corridor," which will involve orchestrating data exchange systems and implementing new transport technologies among Tehran, Moscow, and Baku. This development is expected to enhance the efficiency and security of rail freight transit.

During his visit to Moscow, Zakeri also met with Dmitry Zverev, Russia's Deputy Minister of Transport. They discussed the current status of the Rasht-Astara Railway project and explored ways to strengthen rail routes within the International North-South Transport Corridor.

The meeting included participation from Afshin Parchizadeh, deputy head of the Iranian embassy in Moscow; Sergey Pavlov, Managing Director of Russian Railways; and various officials and representatives from Russian ministries.
