Iran Secures Second Place at U23 World Wrestling Championships in Serbia

Tehran: Iran’s freestyle men’s wrestling team clinched the runner-up position at the 2025 U23 World Wrestling Championships in Serbia, amassing a total of 127 points.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Iranian wrestlers showcased their prowess by securing two gold, one silver, and three bronze medals during the competition held from October 24 to 27 in Novi Sad, located on the banks of the Danube River. The United States emerged as the team champion with 137 points, while Japan took the third spot with 85 points.

Iran’s triumphs included Mohammadmobin Azimi’s victory in the 92 kg weight category, where he defeated Russia’s Mukhamed Khaniev 5-3 in the final. In the 125 kg category, Abolfazl Mohammadnejad won gold by overpowering Khetag Karsanov of Azerbaijan with an 11-0 score.

Milad Valizadeh, after facing a setback against Luke Lilledahl from the United States in the 57 kg category quarterfinals, rebounded to win a bronze medal. Valizadeh defeated Liao Hongzhou from China and eventually triumphed over Russia’s Ayandai Ondar with a score of 10-1.

In the 70 kg category, Sina Khalili advanced to the finals by defeating Moldova’s Alexander Gaidarli 8-2. Khalili secured a silver medal after being bested by Azerbaijan’s Kanan Hibetov in the final match.

Mehdi Yousefi claimed bronze in the 79 kg category by defeating Russia’s Davud Davudov 13-3. Additionally, Abolfazl Rahmani, after losing to Moldova’s Eugen Mihalchan in the semifinals, won a bronze medal by defeating France’s Rakhim Magamadov 7-5.
