Iran to Strengthen Gas Ties at Moscow GECF Summit

Moscow:Iran is set to enhance its gas cooperation with Russia and other members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) during the upcoming summit in Moscow. The country aims to focus on field development, gas exchanges, and the coordination of export policies, as stated by Acting Oil Minister Hamid Bovard.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Bovard, speaking before his departure for the Eighth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the GECF, highlighted Iran's intentions to present its positions and engage in bilateral discussions with relevant ministers. These talks will cover cooperation on energy infrastructure protection during conflicts, expansion of gas exchanges, and the potential establishment of a common market and coordinated international export policies.

Bovard also noted Iran's strong relationships with Russian energy companies, with existing contracts for field development and ongoing discussions on gas exchanges. His visit to Moscow includes accompanying the Iranian president at the summit and participating in the forum's 28th ministerial meeting, set for Monday, a day before the main gathering of heads of state and government.

The GECF Executive Board meeting, chaired by Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs and Trade Ali-Mohammad Mousavi, was scheduled for Sunday. An ad hoc meeting of senior officials was also planned, with tasks including the finalization of key documents like the summit's final declaration.

The GECF, an intergovernmental organization, unites gas-producing and exporting nations to address market trends, energy security, supply and demand, liquefied natural gas developments, and investment requirements. Its 12 full members hold approximately 70 percent of the world's proven natural gas reserves and contribute to significant portions of global gas production and exports.
