Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Bafel Talabani, leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), have stressed the need to strengthen economic ties, improve security coordination along shared borders and counter terrorist threats.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in a phone call on Tuesday, the two officials reviewed bilateral relations and discussed expanding trade and economic cooperation between Iran and Iraq's Kurdistan Region with a focus on Sulaymaniyah. Araghchi also thanked the PUK for providing services and hospitality to Iranian pilgrims during the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

They also reaffirmed the importance of implementing the Iran-Iraq security agreement as a framework for countering terrorism and enhancing security coordination between the two sides.
