Rome: Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has called for immediate global intervention to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza, emphasizing the legal and moral responsibility of nations worldwide to condemn and act against the crimes perpetrated against Palestinians. He highlighted the necessity for urgent humanitarian aid to the war-torn region. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araqchi engaged in discussions regarding the situation in Gaza with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's Secretary of State, during a meeting in Italy. This meeting coincided with the fifth round of nuclear talks between Iran and the United States. Also present was the Vatican's Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher. During the discussions, Araqchi conveyed condolences on the passing of Pope Francis and extended congratulations on the election of Pope Leo XIV as the new head of the Catholic Church. Araqchi identified the violation of fundamental Palestinian rights, especially their right to self- determination, as the primary cause of instability in the West Asian region. He criticized the two-state solution proposed to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict, labeling it an unfulfilled promise that has exacerbated the rights violations against Palestinians. Instead, Iran proposes the establishment of a single democratic state in Palestine, achieved through a referendum that includes all original inhabitants, irrespective of their religious affiliations-Muslims, Jews, and Christians. In addition to discussing the Gaza crisis, Araqchi briefed Vatican officials on the ongoing Tehran-Washington negotiations, reiterating Iran's stance on its right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The meeting also served as a platform for exchanging views on Iran-Vatican bilateral relations and promoting interfaith dialogue.
