Iran Urges U.N. Security Council to Strongly Condemn Zahedan Terror Attack

New york: Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has called on the U.N. Security Council to strongly condemn the recent terrorist attack in the southeastern city of Zahedan, and take a firm position against all forms of terrorism.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the ambassador addressed a letter to U.N. Chief Antonio Guterres and Security Council President Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasizing Iran’s determination to combat terrorist groups and their sponsors until such threats are eradicated from its territory. This letter was sent two days following the attack, which was attributed to the Israel-backed Jaish al-Adl group, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan Baluchestan Province.

In his letter, Iravani described the events that unfolded on the morning of July 26, 2025, when three armed terrorists from Jaish al-Adl launched a coordinated assault on a courthouse in Zahedan, leading to the deaths of innocent civilians, including a mother and her six-month-old baby, and injuring 24 others. Iranian security forces responded by neutralizing the attackers, and Jaish al-Adl claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack is noted as the deadliest by Jaish al-Adl in Iran since October 2024. The group has a history of targeting civilians, law enforcement, and public institutions, and it reportedly operates with support from foreign sponsors, including the Israeli regime.

Iran is urging the United Nations Security Council to condemn the attack and adopt a firm stance against terrorism. The nation reaffirms its commitment to defending its people and maintaining national security against terrorist acts, particularly those supported by foreign actors. Iran vows to continue its fight against terrorist groups with unwavering resolve.
