Iran Vows to Counter Aggression with Full Capabilities

Tunis:Iran is resolute in using all its capabilities to fend off any form of aggression, as emphasized by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei. He highlighted the country's enhanced readiness through its operational experience in what he described as 'three rounds of heroic defense.'

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei, in a discussion with Tunisia's Al-Chourouk newspaper, talked about regional issues, ongoing consultations with Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz, and the potential for regional security frameworks independent of foreign influence.

Baqaei discussed the shared responsibility of Iran and Oman, the two coastal states bordering the Strait of Hormuz, to ensure maritime security in the area. He pointed out that Iran has always been committed to the security of maritime traffic there. However, he noted that the waterway and regional facilities had recently been used to launch military actions against Iran, including attacks on residential areas and civilian casualties.

He mentioned that Tehran and Muscat have been working together to establish safe routes for commercial vessels, reaching a temporary agreement, though some details remain under discussion. Baqaei clarified that this bilateral understanding should not be mistaken for any changes in the overall status of the Strait of Hormuz. A sustainable mechanism for managing the strait requires the cooperation and agreement of both Iran and Oman, respecting their sovereignty and security concerns, without interference from external parties.

Baqaei also touched on the need for regional coordination to address the presence of foreign military forces, which he sees as a source of insecurity. He reiterated Iran's stance that regional security should be managed by the countries within the region. He emphasized Iran's respect for the sovereignty and security of neighboring states, advocating for good-neighborly relations and regional cooperation as core tenets of Iran's foreign policy.

The spokesperson noted that current developments present an opportunity for Persian Gulf countries to reassess regional security from a realistic standpoint, free from outside powers' influence. He acknowledged that while a new security arrangement would not be immediate, continued dialogue and progress are essential.

On the potential for renewed confrontation with the US-Israeli alliance, Baqaei stated that Iran is prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against threats, drawing on its history of defending against foreign aggression.
