New York: Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir-Sa'eed Iravani, has issued a stern warning to the United States, cautioning that any act of aggression will lead to severe consequences for which the U.S. will be fully accountable. The statement was made in a letter addressed to the U.N. Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council on Monday, condemning what Iravani described as reckless and provocative statements from U.S. officials, including President Donald Trump.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran expressed grave concerns over recent hostile remarks from senior U.S. government officials, arguing that these statements violate the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, which prohibit the threat or use of force against sovereign nations. The ambassador emphasized Iran's commitment to maintaining international peace and security and reiterated the country's resolve to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests against any hostile actions.
Iravani criticized the United States for attempting to illegally justify its aggressive actions and war crimes against Yemen, accusing Washington of threatening to use force against Iran while making baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic. He urged the Security Council to take serious note of these inflammatory statements and demand that the United States comply with its obligations under the UN Charter.
The letter highlighted Iran's rejection of recent military aggression and unlawful acts of force by the United States and the United Kingdom against Yemen, actions that Iran claims violate Yemen's sovereignty and pose a threat to regional peace and stability. Iran maintains that it has consistently adhered to its obligations under international law and supports maritime safety and freedom of navigation.
Furthermore, Iravani categorically rejected accusations from the U.S., the United Kingdom, and France regarding Iran's alleged destabilizing activities in the region. He asserted that these allegations are baseless and an attempt to divert attention from the actions of these countries, which Iran accuses of complicity in war crimes in the region. The letter concluded with a call for the Security Council to address these provocations and uphold international peace and security.
