Iran Warns US Air Raids Will Bear Consequences

Tehran: The Foreign Ministry has condemned US military assaults on monitoring facilities along the country's southern coast on Wednesday, warning that Washington would bear responsibility for the consequences of escalating tensions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the ministry stated that the US military launched attacks in the early hours of the day against several monitoring and surveillance centers on Iran's southern coastline, describing the operation as a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter. The ministry emphasized that these strikes were 'a flagrant violation' of the first clause of the Pakistan-brokered MoU, which mandates the cessation of military operations.

The ministry further highlighted that the strikes, combined with the US Treasury Department's decision the previous night to revoke Iran's oil sales authorization, breached arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz. It added that the ongoing Israeli military aggression and terrorist acts against Lebanon had rendered 'important and fundamental parts' of the agreement ineffective. The statement placed the responsibility for the dangerous consequences of this escalation on the 'treaty-breaking US regime.'

Additionally, the Foreign Ministry emphasized the international legal obligations of all governments, particularly those neighboring countries on the southern shores of the Persian Gulf, to prevent aggressor states from using their territory or facilities to carry out hostile acts against Iran. It warned that 'any cooperation in committing the crime of aggression against Iran amounts to complicity and participation in that crime.'

The ministry also called on the UN Security Council and the UN secretary-general to fulfill their responsibilities in maintaining regional and international peace and security. It stressed that Iran's armed forces, acting under Article 51 of the UN Charter, would not hesitate to defend the country's territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and security against US military aggression and would target the origin of any attack.
