Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, have engaged in a phone conversation to address recent regional and international developments, focusing on the forthcoming meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi and Lavrov exchanged views on a wide array of topics, notably the ongoing cross-border conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Araghchi emphasized the critical importance of dialogue to resolve these outstanding issues. He further highlighted the necessity of consultations between Iran and Russia, alongside other nations, to explore strategies for achieving regional peace and stability.

In their discussion, Araghchi pointed out the United States and its European allies’ recent actions in the UN Security Council concerning Palestine, particularly a draft resolution proposing the deployment of an international force in Gaza. He argued that such a plan is bound to fail as it opposes the principles of liberty and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s readiness to continue both bilateral and regional consultations aimed at preserving collective security. The conversation also included discussions on Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA, with both parties emphasizing continued coordination between Tehran, Moscow, and Beijing.

This phone call took place following a meeting involving representatives from China, Iran, and Russia with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and his team, focusing on the upcoming session of the IAEA Board of Governors.
