Iranian Delegation Engages in Indirect Nuclear Talks with U.S. in Oman

Muscat: Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, leading a delegation, has arrived in Oman's capital, Muscat, for indirect negotiations with the United States. These talks aim to address issues related to Iran's nuclear program.According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Iranian team includes deputies Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi, along with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei. They reached Muscat on Saturday morning, signaling the start of crucial discussions. Baqaei shared on his X account that the delegation comprises experienced colleagues dedicated to safeguarding Iran's national interests.The U.S. delegation, led by President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, is engaging in these indirect talks after Iran's refusal to enter direct negotiations. The refusal stems from objections to Trump's 'maximum pressure' campaign and military threats.Baqaei emphasized that Iran is assessing the U.S.'s intent and resolve during the talks and stressed the importance of valu ing Iran's diplomatic engagement. The deputy foreign minister for political affairs highlighted the potential for an agreement if the U.S. refrains from excessive demands and threats. Takht-e-Ravanchi reiterated that dialogue should be based on mutual respect, rejecting any form of coercion.
