Iranian Envoy Condemns Sanctions as Economic Terrorism and Aggression

New York:The Iranian Ambassador and Chargé d'Affaires to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, has labeled sanctions as a form of economic terrorism, asserting that they amount to acts of aggression under international law. His remarks were made during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, focusing on the necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States against Cuba.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Darzi emphasized that sanctions are rooted in unilateralism and coercion, which he argued destabilize international relations and undermine principles established by the UN Charter and international law. He criticized these unilateral actions as violations of fundamental human rights and obstacles to peace and development.

Darzi further highlighted the severe impact of over six decades of U.S. sanctions against Cuba, describing them as acts of coercion against a sovereign state that have inflicted significant hardship on the Cuban people. He called for an immediate end to the embargo and for the Cuban people to receive reparations for damages incurred. The envoy also reiterated Iran's solidarity with Cuba and urged the international community to intensify efforts to eliminate unilateral coercive measures.
