Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has highlighted the longstanding tradition of resistance within Iran, attributing it to the nation's rich historical legacy. He cited the ancient Persian victory over Rome as a significant example of this enduring spirit. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei took to X on Sunday night to emphasize that Iranians have consistently stood strong against various invaders throughout history. He remarked on their ability to face not only individual attackers but also formidable forces like the powerful Roman legions, emerging with honor each time. Baqaei specifically referenced the 53 BC Battle of Carrhae, known in Iran as the Battle of Harran, where the Iranian commander Surena achieved a notable victory over the Roman forces. This battle saw the defeat and death of Marcus Licinius Crassus, a prominent Roman figure, which Baqaei suggested shattered the myth of Roman invincibility and halted its ambitions of expanding eastward. He further commented on the recurring nature of history, implying that those who fail to learn from it are doomed to repeat its mistakes. This statement was made in the context of the recent US-Israeli conflict with Iran, which began on February 28. The spokesperson pointed out that despite the aggressors' significant military capabilities, they faced a humiliating defeat.
