New delhi: Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni has arrived in New Delhi to attend a meeting of interior ministers from BRICS member states and discuss ways to expand bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Momeni was welcomed at Indira Gandhi International Airport by India's director general of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Iran's ambassador to New Delhi upon his arrival on Thursday afternoon. His visit to India follows a three-day official visit to Pakistan, where he engaged in talks with senior officials.

During his stay in New Delhi, Momeni is scheduled to address the BRICS interior ministers' meeting. He will also hold discussions with counterparts from member states focusing on enhancing cooperation in domestic security, counterterrorism efforts, combating organized crime, crisis management, as well as law enforcement and border cooperation.

In a conversation with IRNA in Islamabad before departing for India, Momeni emphasized his primary objective was to participate in the BRICS meeting, highlighting the importance of the grouping for Iran and the global community. He also commented on the current regional developments, underscoring Iran's expectations from BRICS members, and stressed the necessity for the group to assert its influence more firmly on the international stage.

The BRICS interior ministers' meeting aims to bolster security cooperation, improve coordination in addressing common threats, and expand multilateral collaboration among the member states.
