Iranian Lawmaker Urges Diplomacy Amidst US Tensions

Tehran: The head of Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has emphasized that the Iranian nation prefers diplomacy over threats, urging the United States to seize the opportunity for negotiations to maintain its reputation. Ebrahim Azizi, speaking to IRNA's correspondent, highlighted that the Iranian nation, along with its armed forces and institutions, remains prepared to defend the country's values, whether through battle or diplomatic means.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Azizi's remarks were made in response to the United States' repeated threats and its military buildup in the region, which appear aimed at intimidating Iran despite ongoing talks to resolve nuclear and sanctions-related issues. He noted that over the past seven decades, the US has failed to achieve its objectives, asserting that Iran responds to respect with respect but also acts decisively in the face of threats.

Azizi also referenced regional efforts to prevent war, recalling a recent warning by Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, who cautioned that American military actions could cause significant harm to the region. The lawmaker condemned the US and Israeli policies as hostile and war-mongering, urging regional nations to collaborate for the security of West Asia.

In light of recent US military movements and provocative statements, particularly from President Donald Trump, Azizi reiterated Iran's position that American bases and interests would be legitimate targets if attacked. Despite engaging in indirect negotiations with the US, Iran remains firm in its stance on defending its sovereignty.
