Tehran: Iranian Lawmaker Mahmoud Nabavian has emphasized the need for a fundamental change in the country's nuclear policy to bolster its defense mechanisms against perceived threats, stating that Tehran must arm itself with the same weapons as the United States and Israel. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Nabavian made these comments during an open session of the parliament, asserting that Iran's security is non-negotiable. He highlighted the importance of deterrence, suggesting that Iran should be prepared to use any weapon that enhances its defensive posture against its adversaries, particularly the United States and Israel, which he referred to as the Zionist regime. Nabavian referenced the Holy Quran, stating that it instructs followers to build strength and power to instill fear in their enemies, thereby creating a deterrent effect. He argued that the current geopolitical climate necessitates a reevaluation of Iran's nuclear strategy, implying that the nation must expand its capabilities to match those of its declared adversaries. Furthermore, Nabavian suggested that Iran should not only match but exceed the military capabilities of its enemies as a means of ensuring national security. His remarks come in the context of increasing regional tensions, with recent hostile actions attributed to Israel, including attacks on Iranian interests and allies in the region. In response to these provocations, Iran has conducted retaliatory operations against Israel, asserting its right to defend its sovereignty and respond to actions it deems violations of its national security and territorial integrity.
