Tehran:Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has publicly criticized Lana Nusseibeh, a senior diplomat from the United Arab Emirates, for her decision to enter the race for the position of United Nations Secretary-General.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf expressed his disapproval on social media, suggesting that Nusseibeh's candidacy is part of an agenda to support the "Greater Israel project" and to "whitewash a systematic genocide." He further mocked the diplomat by likening her candidacy to "updating the LinkedIn profile to apply for the henhouse guard job."
Ghalibaf's comments also included references to a past interview with Nusseibeh, wherein she defended the UAE's normalization of relations with Israel. This stance has been controversial due to ongoing global concerns over Israel's actions in Gaza.
