His predecessor, Lieutenant General Gholamali Rashid, was also assassinated by Israel on June 13, and his burial will occur in his hometown, Dezful, on Monday. Following Rashid’s assassination, Shadmani was appointed by Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei as the new commander.
Lieutenant General Mohammad Baqeri, the chairman of the chiefs of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, was laid to rest on Saturday after a funeral procession for 60 victims of the Israeli aggression. These individuals were among more than 600 casualties during the 12-day conflict.
The aggression began three days before planned talks between Iran and the United States on Iran’s nuclear program. The conflict escalated when Washington joined the aggression on June 22, targeting Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz.
In retaliation, the Iranian Armed Forces struck key areas within Israeli-occupied territories, causing significant damage. The conflict concluded with a ceasefire announced on June 24.
