Tehran: Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is scheduled to visit the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Monday. This visit was announced by Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, as reported by Anadolu Ajansi (AA) citing a state news agency.

According to Nam News Network, the visit by Munir and his accompanying delegation aims to bolster bilateral cooperation and build on Pakistan's efforts to help strengthen peace and security in the region. Baqaei's remarks, carried by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), indicate that Munir will engage in discussions with senior Iranian officials during his trip.

Pakistan has played a significant role as a mediator between Iran and the United States throughout ongoing tensions and has maintained close contact with both nations. The US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17, launching negotiations towards a final agreement. However, these talks have since stalled due to disagreements on security guarantees and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies and trade.

Between July 8 and July 24, tensions escalated as the US and Iran exchanged military strikes. Washington launched attacks on targets within Iran, leading to Tehran's response with strikes on US military facilities and equipment in several Arab countries, including Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
