Tehran: The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) says it has registered three new nuclear achievements, including the launch of the country's first fully indigenous industrial accelerator, the start of advanced production of Carbon-13, and the reactivation of a cyclotron for radiopharmaceutical production.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesperson for the AEOI, made the announcement on Tuesday after attending a session of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, where he briefed lawmakers on the organization's latest activities.

Kamalvandi stated that the three fundamental advances include the launch of an industrial accelerator with applications in environmental protection, medicine, nuclear technology, and scientific research. The accelerator is entirely homegrown, designed and built by Iranian specialists over a period of four years, and officially entered operation this week.

The spokesperson also highlighted the start of advanced Carbon-13 production, achieved through a 12-meter tower installed at a semi-industrial scale. Carbon-13 has uses in medicine, nuclear science, radiopharmaceuticals, various industries, and environmental studies.

Additionally, Kamalvandi announced the successful reactivation of a cyclotron, which had been inactive for nearly two years due to sanctions that impeded the import of necessary components. Domestic experts managed to produce all the necessary parts, allowing the cyclotron to resume operations and contribute to radiopharmaceutical production.
