Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province Attracts Over 130,000 Foreign Tourists in Current Year

Tabriz: More than 130,000 foreign tourists from approximately 20 countries have visited East Azerbaijan Province during the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21, 2025. This information was shared by the Director General of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts of East Azerbaijan Province.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ahmad Hamzehzadeh stated that the majority of these foreign tourists hailed from Iraq, Turkey, China, and Armenia. He also mentioned that 106,730 foreign tourists have utilized hotels and official accommodation centers within the province, compared to 107,000 tourists in the previous year.

The total number of both domestic and foreign tourists in East Azerbaijan this year has been reported as 3,354,200. Out of these, 3,200,000 have stayed in hotels and other official accommodation facilities, marking a 4.82% increase from the previous year.

East Azerbaijan is recognized for its wide range of tourist attractions and is home to 4,000 historical and ancient monuments, with 2,026 registered on the National Heritage List. Notable UNESCO World Heritage sites in the province include Tabriz Historic Bazaar Complex, Monastery of Saint Stepanos, Khajeh Nazar Caravansarai in Jolfa, Goujebel Caravanserai, and Jamalabad Caravanserai.
