Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has made it clear that the only viable solution to the nuclear issues concerning the Islamic Republic of Iran is through negotiation. Writing on his X account late on Tuesday, Araghchi responded to recent comments by US President Donald Trump regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, as Araghchi prepared for a fifth round of talks with Steve Witkoff on May 23, 2025, he expressed Iran’s willingness to reach a deal if the negotiations focused on achieving ‘Zero nuclear weapons.’ However, he firmly stated that Tehran would not participate in discussions that aimed for ‘zero enrichment.’

Araghchi emphasized that if President Trump were to review the minutes of previous discussions, he would recognize how close both parties were to finalizing a new and historic Iran nuclear deal. He reminded Trump of the lack of intelligence that Iraq was concealing weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), which resulted in extensive destruction, the loss of thousands of American soldiers, and a significant financial burden on American taxpayers.

He highlighted that there was no credible intelligence suggesting that Iran was on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon, contrary to claims that Israel had influenced the US into adopting a confrontational stance against Iran. Araghchi accused Israel of attempting to fabricate a threat based on Iran’s defensive capabilities.

Araghchi asserted that the American public is weary of engaging in conflicts driven by Israel’s interests. He praised Iran as a great nation with a rich and ancient civilization, asserting that while physical infrastructure can be destroyed, Iran’s resolve remains unshaken. He concluded by reaffirming that doubling down on miscalculations does not lead to resolution, stressing once again that the only solution is through negotiation.
