Iran’s Proposal at CIS Summit Seen as Geopolitical Shift

Baku:A Russian expert has praised Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's participation in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) heads-of-state summit, describing it as a significant event for Iran and the member countries. The proposal he introduced at the summit is considered a setback to the US-Israeli campaign against Iran.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Farhad Ibragimov, a lecturer at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, emphasized the importance of Iran in the geopolitical arena. He highlighted Iran's resistance to aggression from the United States and Israel, which he believes has enhanced Iran's geopolitical influence both regionally and globally.

Ibragimov noted that CIS member states recognize the advantages of closer ties with Iran, which offers a large market, a vast territory, and access to open waters. He described President Pezeshkian's proposal for a "Commonwealth of Independent States + Iran" (CIS+1) cooperation format as an extraordinary event and a major geopolitical shift.

The proposal was well-received by Russia, Belarus, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Central Asian countries. Its implementation could lead to increased convergence and security across the Eurasian region, according to Ibragimov.
