Iran’s Proposal to Delay Snapback Rejected Amid Alleged Zionist Lobby Pressure

Tehran: Iran claims its proposal to delay the activation of the snapback mechanism for 45 days was rejected due to pressure from the Zionist lobby, according to administration spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani. Speaking at a cabinet meeting in Tehran, Mohajerani highlighted the extensive efforts by Iran’s diplomatic team to postpone or suspend the reinstatement of UN sanctions. These sanctions were initiated by Britain, France, and Germany, the three European signatories of the 2015 nuclear deal.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mohajerani stated that despite Iran’s diplomatic endeavors, the influence of the Zionist lobby significantly impacted the decision-making processes of both European nations and the United States. Initially, discussions were intended to focus on Iran’s stockpile of 60% enriched uranium and the snapback issue. Iran aimed for a complete removal of the snapback mechanism, but this proposition was not accepted by the other parties involved.

Mohajerani also mentioned Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s recent visit to New York, during which Tehran expressed its willingness to engage in talks with the three European countries, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and US envoy Steve Witkoff. However, she noted that these requests for meetings were either declined or not attended by the intended parties.

In response to questions about the Iranian parliament’s decision to suspend cooperation with the IAEA following the snapback activation, Mohajerani clarified that the issue would be reviewed and decided upon by the Supreme National Security Council. She assured that any decisions aligned with national interests would be communicated to the public.
