Iran’s Rostamian Climbs to Fifth Spot in World Shooting Ranking

Tehran: Iranian shooter Hanieh Rostamian has climbed to fifth place in the women's 10m air pistol category in the latest world rankings of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the list published by the ISSF for August 2026 shows Rostamian's elevation from her previous 12th rank to the fifth, following the conclusion of the World Cup held in Hangzhou, China.

The Iranian Olympian achieved a significant milestone by winning the bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol event at the World Cup, which gathered some of the finest shooting sport athletes from around the globe last month. Rostamian's performance secured her fourth World Cup medal, finishing third, while the event saw a Chinese shooter clinch first place and an Indian shooter take second.

The latest ISSF list also highlights ranking improvements for other Iranian shooting athletes. Sharmineh Chehel-Amirani has impressively climbed 35 places to rank 33rd in the 10m rifle category. Vahid Golkhandan has moved up one place to 15th in the men's 10m pistol, and Javad Foroughi has risen 5 places to 66th.

Achievement in ISSF Championships generally determines the world ranking of athletes. The rankings are announced on the first of every month and reflect the accomplishments of shooters over the past 365 days on a rolling basis.
