New York: Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations has praised the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) while condemning Israel for what he described as the use of hunger as a weapon in its conflict with Gaza. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Amir Saeid Iravani addressed the UN General Assembly, highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza caused by Israel's military actions. He lauded UNRWA's commissioner-general, Philippe Lazzarini, for his leadership and efforts to maintain the agency's financial stability and operations in the region. Iravani emphasized the dire situation facing Palestinian civilians, particularly women and children, as a result of what he termed as Israel's genocidal policies and continued blockade of Gaza, which he argued represents a gross violation of human rights. He further criticized recent attempts by the Israeli Knesset to disrupt UNRWA's operations, which he stated are crucial for providing education , healthcare, and humanitarian aid to Palestinian refugees. The Iranian envoy called for Israel to comply with international law and allow humanitarian aid into occupied Palestinian territories. He also urged the international community to take action against Israel's alleged violations and consider suspending its UN General Assembly membership. Iravani concluded by reiterating Iran's support for UNRWA and the need for decisive action to end what he described as Israel's crimes in Gaza and other Palestinian areas.
