Iran’s UN Mission Asserts No Legal Barriers on Shahed Drone Sale

Washington: Iran's Diplomatic Mission to the United Nations has responded to the showcasing of the Shahed drone at the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), asserting that there are no legal prohibitions on its sale. The mission emphasized that the Shahed drone is one of the world's most advanced unmanned aerial vehicles, known for its outstanding reconnaissance, surveillance, and operational capabilities, all while being cost-effective.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran's mission conveyed via its official X account that any country pledging not to use the drone for aggressive acts against another state is eligible to apply for its purchase. The display of an Iranian drone at the 2025 CPAC was seen as part of a media campaign against Iran, addressing perceived threats from the nation. United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), a U.S.-based organization led by former U.S. envoy to the United Nations Mark Wallace, conducts various activities opposing Iran.

U.S. sources have alleged that Russia used the downed Iranian-made drone during the conflict in Ukraine before transferring it to the United States. These sources also claimed the drone was a suicide type, purportedly used in an attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan that resulted in the deaths of three U.S. armed forces personnel.

The 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) commenced on February 19 and will continue until February 22, 2025, in Washington, D.C.
