Baghdad: Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has disclosed that while Iran is ready to engage in dialogue with the United States, there has been no response from Washington as of yet. The foreign minister emphasized this during an interview with Rudaw, a Kurdish digital news platform based in Iraq's Kurdistan region.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hussein mentioned that the core issue is the absence of direct communication between Iran and the US. Presently, messages are exchanged, but no meetings have taken place, adding complexity to the situation. Hussein noted that if a decision is reached to hold a meeting, Iraq is willing to facilitate, but the US has yet to commit to any discussions.

The Iraqi foreign minister also stated that Iran is open to talks without pre-conditions, whereas the US has imposed various conditions related to uranium enrichment levels and the quantity of enriched material. Iran has assured that it will not initiate conflict but will defend itself if necessary.

Hussein clarified that while he has not acted as an intermediary in the message exchange between Iran and the US, he has engaged with both sides to discuss the ongoing issues. The backdrop of these developments includes stalled negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, which were interrupted by an Israeli act of aggression on June 13, 2025, subsequently supported by Washington.

Despite these challenges, Tehran has consistently expressed its readiness to negotiate based on principles of equality, mutual respect, and shared interests.
