Hanoi:The commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has declared that the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is a "red line" for the Islamic Republic. He emphasized that no extra-regional power can threaten, dominate, or interfere in this strategic waterway.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Major General Ahmad Vahidi made these remarks in a message marking IRGC Navy Day. He highlighted the IRGC Navy's success in forcing an "aggressor fleet" to retreat from the Persian Gulf by effectively managing and controlling the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC chief described the Strait of Hormuz as a vital artery of global energy and a strategic red line for Iran. He noted that the naval forces under his command had acted courageously during the third American-Zionist imposed war and warned that any threats would receive a decisive response.
General Vahidi outlined that the IRGC Navy, in close coordination with the Iranian Army Navy, is equipped with precision-guided missiles, offensive drones, fast attack vessels, electronic warfare capabilities, and a coastal defense network. He asserted that these forces are prepared to respond to any unauthorized transits through waters under their control.
He further stated that the IRGC Navy's strategy is clear, principled, and unchangeable, arguing that protecting the Strait of Hormuz is essential for safeguarding Iran's national interests, security, and dignity.
The general also honored Nader Mahdavi, an IRGC naval commander commemorated on IRGC Navy Day for his martyrdom on October 8, 1987, and praised IRGC naval commanders Alireza Tangsiri and Behnam Rezaei.
In conclusion, Gen. Vahidi urged IRGC naval personnel to remain vigilant in defending Iran and the Strait of Hormuz "at any time and in any arena" under the leadership of Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
