Tehran: Major General Hossein Salami, the chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), has announced that the elite force is equipped with Artificial Intelligence technologies to enhance the execution of complex military operations. Addressing an international conference on AI in Tehran, he emphasized the importance of understanding and utilizing AI for modern military strategies.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Major General Salami elucidated on how AI can significantly improve military operations. He illustrated the example of detecting a hostile ship, where AI technology can assist in identifying specific targets on the vessel, facilitating precise strikes while safeguarding the crew members. 'Advanced AI technology enables us to locate the desired ship using image matching,' he added.
Salami further explained the strategic advantage provided by AI in drone operations. He mentioned that drones can strike large enemy vessels with minimal damage, but determining the vessel's center of mass through AI can be pivotal for achieving a more impactful strike. Highlighting AI's role in air defense, he pointed out that the complexity of managing simultaneous attacks by multiple aircraft often overwhelms human decision-making. In such scenarios, Artificial Intelligence can provide a rapid solution.
Beyond military uses, General Salami discussed the broader potential of AI in various sectors. He mentioned its applications in healthcare, rescue operations, aviation, and transportation, emphasizing the transformative role AI could play in these areas.
