Tehran: The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has confirmed the downing of an advanced MQ-1 drone in the airspace over the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the IRGC announced on Monday that its Aerospace Force, operating within Iran's integrated air defense network, intercepted and destroyed the drone over the strategic waterway moments ago.

The incident follows a previous announcement by the IRGC Navy, which reported the destruction of a US unmanned surface vessel at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC Navy noted that the US military had recently dispatched unmanned vessels to the area, allegedly as a precautionary measure against approaching and confronting Iranian forces.
