Bandar Abbas: Iran's new homegrown Shahid Bahman Baqeri drone carrier warship has officially joined the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) naval fleet in the Persian Gulf. The addition was marked by a ceremony held in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Shahid Baqeri drone carrier is equipped with advanced capabilities, allowing it to deploy multiple drone squadrons and manage both reconnaissance and strike drones. Major General Mohammad Baqeri, chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces, remarked during the ceremony that prior to the Islamic Revolution, Iran relied heavily on imported military equipment. Now, he noted, more than 90% of Iran's military equipment is produced domestically by Iranian scientists.
Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, Commander of the IRGC Navy, highlighted the unique features of the Shahid Baqeri warship. Beyond its military prowess, the ship boasts specialized medical facilities, including an operating room, coronary care unit, radiology, and dental services. It is also outfitted with sports amenities such as a multi-purpose sports hall and a gym.
Admiral Tangsiri emphasized that the integration of this warship into the IRGC Navy fleet represents a significant advancement in increasing Iran's defensive and deterrent capabilities in distant waters. It also plays a crucial role in securing the nation's national interests.
