Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated on Monday that Israeli efforts to disrupt the burgeoning understanding between Tehran and Washington have been countered by transforming these acts into opportunities that bolster Iran and Lebanon's interests.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baghaei emphasized that future generations will recognize the resilience of Iran and its allies in thwarting the Zionist regime's attempts to undermine their focus on safeguarding Iran and Lebanon's supreme interests. During a weekly press briefing, he asserted that the Israeli transgressions have only enhanced the unity and strength of the resistance front.
Baghaei announced the finalization of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States aimed at concluding the 'imposed war' by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran, including its impact on Lebanon. He highlighted that this development marks a significant breakthrough, attributing it to the legendary resistance of the Iranian people against aggression.
The spokesman expressed appreciation for the Iranian populace's steadfast support, which has fortified the nation's defense on military and diplomatic fronts over the past 110 days. He also condemned the attacks on Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities, criticizing the international community's failure, especially the Board of Governors and the IAEA, to address these illegal acts by the US and Israel.
Baghaei reiterated Iran's commitment to remembering its martyrs, acknowledging the loss of senior commanders and citizens during the conflict. He linked a recent Israeli strike on Beirut's southern suburbs with the ongoing efforts to finalize the agreement with Washington, condemning the attack which resulted in Lebanese civilian casualties.
He indicated that decisions on future actions would prioritize Iran's supreme interests, transforming Israeli aggression into an opportunity to enhance national interests across the resistance front. The spokesperson highlighted that ending the war and securing a ceasefire in Lebanon are integral to the April 8 arrangement, reflecting Iran's dedication to implementing the agreement.
Baghaei detailed the memorandum's explicit references to Lebanon, emphasizing respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He suggested that the document extends beyond mere cessation of hostilities, encompassing broader commitments toward Lebanon.
The spokesperson announced plans for regional visits and meetings ahead of the memorandum's formal signing, with details to be disclosed soon. He underscored that these efforts do not imply forgiving past crimes against Iran but represent a step towards reducing tensions.
