Tehran: While Israel's initial attacks on Iran on June 13 focused on military and nuclear facilities, subsequent strikes have expanded to broader targets, resulting in increased civilian casualties. This was highlighted on June 15 when two air strikes hit Tehran's Tajrish neighborhood, killing 17 people, according to Iranian authorities.
According to France24.com, at 3:30 pm local time on Sunday, two explosions shook Tajrish, a residential area in northern Tehran. One Israeli air strike hit a six-story building, while another struck a busy intersection 150 meters further west, near the Tajrish Bazaar and a metro station. The Tajrish Hospital is located 50 meters further west of the intersection.
The air strike on the building destroyed its top three floors, which housed a bank and a local mosque organization. Among the victims was Saleh Bairami, a well-known graphic designer, who was caught in the blast while waiting at a red light at the intersection.
Videos of the strike at the intersection show significant damage, with water gushing from a ruptured pipe, cars damaged by the blast or debris, and people trapped in their vehicles, with onlookers assisting in rescue efforts.
In a video released by the Israeli military on June 16, the military claimed that the Israeli Air Force had precisely targeted command centers belonging to the Quds Force of the IRGC and the Iranian military, showing two targets in northern Tehran near the explosion sites.
Iranian health ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpouron reported on June 15 that since the air strikes began, 224 people have been killed and 1,227 wounded, with 90 percent of the victims being civilians, as stated in his post on X. There has been no official update since Sunday.
