Tehran: Kazakhstan has reiterated its commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation with Iran, with a particular focus on expanding transit connectivity, logistics projects, and bilateral trade.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Kazakhstan's Kazinform news agency cited the country's Foreign Ministry, reporting that Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev traveled to Tehran to attend the farewell ceremony for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. During the visit, Kosherbayev met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The Kazakh minister conveyed the condolences of the president and people of Kazakhstan to the Iranian government and nation over the recent events, expressing sympathy and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured. The meetings reviewed the implementation of agreements reached during President Pezeshkian's official visit to Kazakhstan in December 2025 and included exchanges on regional developments and future cooperation.

According to Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry, both sides discussed bilateral relations, collaboration within regional and international organizations, and ways to further boost ties between Tehran and Astana. Kazakhstan also emphasized the importance of expanding transit and logistics cooperation. Kosherbayev welcomed the agreement allocating land at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas for the construction of Kazakhstan's transport and logistics terminal, describing the project as a significant step toward enhancing the country's export capacity and regional transit routes.

According to Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry, the terminal is expected to boost bilateral trade. Trade between Iran and Kazakhstan increased by 26.4% in 2025, reaching $430.2 million. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing existing agreements and broadening cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
