Kesreq Castle A Window into Iran’s Medieval Islamic History

Esfarayen:Kesreq Esfarayen Castle, situated in North Khorasan Province in northeastern Iran, traces its origins back to the 5th century AH, equivalent to the 11th century AD. This site is a significant part of Iran's national heritage, preserving traces of the region's medieval Islamic history.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the castle was added to Iran's national heritage list in 2007 with the registration number 21226. Despite much of its original structure no longer standing, the site is recognized for its historical and cultural importance. Visitors to the area can explore both the remnants of the castle and the natural and rural attractions of nearby Esfarayen city.

The site primarily appears as a hill today, containing remains of mud and adobe architecture, as well as pottery from the medieval Islamic period. North Khorasan's director general of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts highlighted that these findings provide insights into the construction methods and lifestyles of people in the region during earlier centuries.
