Coinciding with its participation in the activities of World Vulture Awareness Day, the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has reported the presence of four vulture species thriving within the reserve. This habitat is home to over 310 individual vultures, some of which are classified as rare and face threats of extinction. The reserve is particularly significant for its population of 35 lappet-faced vultures, the largest species recorded in the Kingdom. Additionally, it houses 200 griffon vulture, the second largest species, along with 50 coragyps atrati, which possess the largest wingspan of any avian species in the world. The reserve also includes 25 white scavenger vultures, typically found in arid and rocky environments. The increase in vulture populations, along with other endangered wildlife species, underscores the effectiveness of the authority's conservation initiatives. These efforts include measures to combat poaching, the insulation of electrical infrastructure to pr event electrocution, and ensuring that carrion is free from toxic substances, which are essential for vultures' survival.
