Kuwait city: Kuwaiti air defences are actively engaging in response to missile and drone threats originating from Iran, as reported by the nation's army on Thursday. The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces announced this development on the social media platform X, emphasizing that the air defence systems are intercepting what they described as "hostile targets." Residents have been urged to follow safety and security instructions issued by authorities.

According to Nam News Network, the Iranian IRIB news agency claimed that US military bases in Kuwait were targeted during the operation. The report indicated that one of the bases was struck, resulting in visible plumes of smoke. However, Iran has not provided any official commentary regarding the attack.

The escalation follows a month-long lull in direct confrontations, which was disrupted by a US strike on Larak Island, prompting retaliatory actions by Iran across the Gulf region. These actions have impacted countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Since the initiation of US-Israeli operations against Iran on February 28, 2026, Kuwait has been among the most frequently targeted nations hosting US forces.

Iran maintains that its military actions are directed at the US military presence in Kuwait and not against the Kuwaiti population. The Iranian government has demanded the removal of US forces from the country. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran stated on Wednesday that it specifically targeted the headquarters and accommodations of the US commander at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
