Larijani and British Counterpart Discuss Nuclear Negotiations and Snapback Mechanism

Tehran: Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, and his British counterpart, Jonathan Powell, have engaged in discussions concerning the resumption of nuclear negotiations and the resolution of issues related to the snapback mechanism. The dialogue took place during a phone conversation on Wednesday, where both officials concurred on the necessity of ongoing consultations aimed at addressing nuclear matters through dialogue.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, last week saw Germany, France, and Britain initiate the snapback mechanism process. This clause is designed to reinstate UN sanctions on Iran, following allegations of the Islamic Republic’s significant non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear agreement. The agreement was originally abandoned by the United States in 2018. Iran has responded by labeling the move as illegal and has promised to deliver a decisive and reciprocal response should the mechanism be enforced.
