Tehran: The official website of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has reposted a 2022 comment by Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who had warned against relying on the West and urged countries to learn a lesson from the situation in Ukraine.According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the website of Iran's Leader, KHAMENEI.IR, shared Ayatollah Khamenei's comment on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, March 1, exactly three years after the comment was initially posted on the social media platform in both Persian and Ukrainian languages.'The first lesson learnt from Ukraine's issue is that support of Western powers for countries and governments, which are their puppets, is a mirage. All governments should understand this. Those governments, which rely on the U.S. and Europe, should look at the current situation in Ukraine,' Khamenei had remarked. His comment was originally made on March 1, 2022, shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which followed the Western military alliance NATO's failure to address Moscow's security concerns. Russia had been increasingly concerned about NATO's eastward expansion in the months leading up to the war.Throughout the conflict, the U.S., under former president Joe Biden, spearheaded the West's financial and military support for Ukraine. Russia repeatedly protested this assistance, arguing that it only served to extend the conflict. Now, under Biden's successor Donald Trump, the U.S. has accused Ukraine of obstructing a peace agreement. 'You're not really in a good position right now,' Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a heated exchange in Washington D.C on Friday. 'You're gambling with World War III,' Trump added.KHAMENEI.IR reposted the Leader's warning a day after Trump and his Vice-President JD Vance engaged in the spat with Zelensky at the White House.
