A medical team from King Saud University Medical City, Riyadh, specialized in thoracic surgery, has successfully performed robotic surgery to remove a cancerous lung tumor from a 70-year-old patient. Dr. Suha Kaaki, thoracic and foregut surgeon and assistant professor of surgery, led the team in this procedure. She told a reporter of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the patient was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in the lung. After a thorough review of the case, the surgical team opted for a robotic segmentectomy of the lung. The procedure involves making precise incisions of no more than one centimeter using a surgical robot. Dr. Kaaki highlighted the complexity of this surgery in the Kingdom, and said the tumor was completely removed and the patient was discharged in good health after a two-day hospital stay.
