Washington: President Donald Trump has lashed out after Iran denied it was in negotiations with the United States, declaring in a social media post that a US military blockade will continue until there is a "Deal, or Total surrender."

According to TRTworld.com, Trump's statement on Truth Social came after Iran said there were no direct talks with Washington. Trump had earlier insisted there would be negotiations after he called off a threatened round of heavy bombing against Iran over the weekend, citing appeals from regional powers and Tehran.

The Iranian foreign ministry stated that the only talks it was holding were with Oman, focusing on plans to share control over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for global energy trade. Trump, however, maintained that Iran had asked for talks and dismissed Iran's claims about controlling Hormuz as "their usual blather."

Trump asserted that the Strait of Hormuz is "already completely controlled by the United States Navy and our Blockade or, as some say, The United States Wall of Steel!" emphasizing that nothing passes through to Iran unless permitted by the US, pending a "Deal, or Total Surrender."

Trump initiated a conflict with Iran on February 28, alongside Israel, aiming to dismantle Iran's nuclear capabilities, missile programs, and support for a popular uprising against the government. Despite more than five months of conflict, Iran retains the ability to launch missiles and drones at US and allied targets, maintaining its enriched uranium stockpiles.

The ongoing US pressure has not deterred Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which have significantly impacted global energy trading, providing Iran with leverage in the ongoing standoff.
