Washington D.C.: The U.S. Secret Service says its agents have shot a man near the White House after what it called an armed confrontation.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the incident took place after midnight about a block west of the White House in Washington D.C., as stated by the agency in a statement on Sunday, which was carried by American media. It added that President Donald Trump was not in the White House at the time of the incident.
The agency mentioned that a day earlier, it had received information from police about a 'suicidal individual' who may have been traveling to Washington D.C. from Indiana. The Secret Service's officers encountered the suspect's parked car at around midnight and saw a man matching his description, the agency said.
It further added that as the officers approached, the man 'brandished a firearm', leading to 'an armed confrontation.' The man was transferred to an area hospital, and his condition is unknown. No one else was injured.
