Beirut: Sheikh Maher Hammoud, head of the World Union of Resistance Scholars, has highlighted the significant role of martyr Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani in countering US-Israeli plans in the region. Hammoud emphasized that Soleimani's influence extended beyond the battlefield, contributing to a comprehensive strategy against terrorism.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hammoud, in an exclusive interview ahead of the anniversary of General Soleimani's martyrdom, described him as the main obstacle to the realization of these geopolitical plans. Hammoud elaborated on Soleimani's ability to integrate military expertise with Islamic ideology, enabling a robust confrontation against terrorism aimed at the Islamic world.

Discussing the impact of Soleimani's death on the resistance movement, Hammoud asserted that it had propelled the movement forward. He remarked on the growing recognition of Soleimani's strategic importance, evident when the US targeted and assassinated him, underscoring that his presence was perceived as a significant threat.

Hammoud further stated that General Soleimani posed a regional challenge to both the US and Israeli interests. He was reportedly formulating a new strategy for the Axis of Resistance, aiming to eventually expel US forces from the region.

On the topic of Soleimani's role in combating Daesh, Hammoud praised his organized and deliberate efforts in the fight against terrorism. He argued that replacing terrorism with a 'sound and comprehensive Islamic resistance' was crucial, and Soleimani's legacy continues to influence the resistance's progress.

General Soleimani, recognized for his pivotal role in the regional anti-terrorism campaign, was assassinated by the US military under the direct orders of then-President Donald Trump on January 3, 2020, near Baghdad's international airport.
