The ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) achieved a 9.16% increase in handling tonnage in June 2024, reaching 27,640,795 tons compared to 25,320,449 tons in the same month of 2023. The number of exported containers rose by 7.78% to 228,031 containers, compared to 211,568 containers in the same period of 2023. The number of imported containers also increased by 9.85% to 245,569 containers, compared to 223,547 in the same period of the year before. Total general cargo amounted to 584,906 tons, solid bulk cargo to 4,967,385 tons, and liquid bulk cargo to 15,551,736 tons. The ports received 1,821,863 heads of livestock, marking a decrease of 8.51% compared to 1,991,248 livestock in the same period of 2023. The number of handled containers stood at 594,972, registering a decrease of 15.51% compared to 704,197 containers last year. Transshipment containers decreased by 54.89% to 121,372 containers, compared to 269,082 containers in 2023. Mawani indicated that maritime traffic decreased by 3.41 %, reaching 962 ships compared to 996 in 2023. The number of passengers decreased by 18.66% to 55,289, compared to 67,970 last year. Also, the number of vehicles increased by 33.93% to 101,146, compared to 75,524 vehicles last year. Mawani launched the Port Community System (PCS) under the unified logistics window (Logisti) umbrella during the first quarter of 2024. This system provides more than 250 e-services in the ports, contributing to the maritime transport sector's increased competitiveness and enhancing the port sector's productivity.
