UAE MP Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi has been elected speaker of the Arab Parliament for a two-year term, securing 53 votes against his competitor, Libyan MP Dr. Abdul Salam Nasiyah, who received eight votes. The election took place during a procedural session at the Secretariat General of the Arab League headquarters. The session, presided over by Egyptian House of Representatives member Yousry Al-Maghazi - the parliament's oldest member - focused on electing the new speaker. Al-Yamahi, who serves as a member of the UAE's Federal Council and Vice Speaker of the Arab Parliament, will lead the body for the upcoming term.
