Tehran: Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Mohammad-Reza Farzin, has stated that Donald Trump's election as the next US president will not affect Iran's economy or its financial growth. Farzin made these remarks during a televised interview on Saturday night, emphasizing that Iran's economy does not have direct commercial, monetary, or financial ties with the United States or Europe. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Farzin acknowledged that while Iran might remain unaffected, global economies and financial markets could feel the repercussions if the incoming US administration changes its policy. He noted that cryptocurrencies had reacted to Trump's arrival, with Bitcoin experiencing a 20% increase, while Iran's exchange rate only saw a 1% change. Farzin attributed part of the market's anxiety to policies from Trump's previous tenure. Farzin further warned that global markets and the economies of China and Europe could face severe impacts if Trump reinstates his past trade and commerce pol icies, particularly his tariff regime. His views align with those of Western financial experts, who have cautioned that Trump's victory could lead to a risky period for the US and the world, with higher tariffs potentially driving up consumer goods prices. On the domestic front, Farzin expressed optimism about Iran's economic future, projecting a decrease in inflation to 30% by the end of the year and further down to 20%. He highlighted Iran's reduced dependencies and expanded regional interactions, particularly with BRICS countries, where Iran has already initiated significant activities and preparations. Farzin also mentioned that part of Iran's cooperation with BRICS nations includes removing the dollar from transactions with some countries. While Iran awaits America's regional policy changes, Farzin assured that the country's forex reserves have increased and necessary measures have been implemented to manage the economy effectively.
